This is my final design for my first assignment for Graphic Design. I feel I have done a good job at portraying the concept of social anxiety within this typography piece. I felt the emotion I chose was difficult enough for this to be a challenge but broad enough to give me plenty to research. In the time frame we were given I believe I have developed the idea far enough for it to clearly portray the concept. However, if I had more time I would have tried to develop it even further by making it even more simple. One thing that I felt quite limiting was the amount of free fonts available, so if I was to do this again I could use other fonts.
‘Regular’ social anxiety is known to all of us as an uncomfortable feeling of nervousness. Many people have particular worries about social situations like public speaking or talking to authority figures, or experience more general feelings of shyness or a lack of confidence.
During the lesson today I showed the tutor and discussed the idea of my work so far, she tought I had some good ideas but I was trying to do too many in the same piece, so I need to think exactly what my concept was. I have decided as my research shows that people feel most jittery is when they are is social situations. This is called social anxiety and extreme social anxiety is called social anxiety disorder or social phobia. With my concept now clear I need to think about placement, what is the pressure of, why is there a shadow does it need to be moved.
After alot of development and extra research into typography. Below is my final piece.
During the research I found many images. I really liked the concept of social phobia and being alone in a crowded place. Pressure seems to be an incredibly important part of why people feel jittery, so this would be something important to consider when coming up with initial ideas.
